Earlier in the week Glen played a secret show at Dave’s Pure Pop Record Store in St Kilda and hung out with Dave for a few days while he was in Melbourne.
On Saturday night, with the E Street Band having a night off from their Australian tour, Jake as well as E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgrin went along to watch Glen Hansard and Jake joined the band.
During the encore, Glen performed the AC/DC song ‘Gimme A Bullet’ and invited Dave on stage to help out with vocals of one of his dad’s more obscure songs.
Glen Hansard and The Frames also performed Bruce Springsteen’s ‘Drive All Night’ earlier in the show with Jake.
The Hansard show went way past curfew ending at 12:05am in the street of Southbank Boulevard with a congo line lead by the band and featuring the audience weaving through the streets of Melbourne to a gospel tune.
Glen Hansard and the Frames will perform two shows this week at the Sydney Opera House and then head to Bluesfest Byron Bay this weekend.
